5 Simple Wallpaper Designs For Your Living Room - How Not to Overwhelm Your Space
Your living room is one of the most used, most lived-in spaces in your home. This is where most of us play games, watch movies, fold clothes, workout, eat snacks and let’s be honest, take naps. It’s the ultimate all-in-one room. Sometimes when it comes to design, the living room can get overlooked. So let’s give it the attention it deserves! In turn, you’ll be left with a more comfortable, more relaxing space that is both cohesive and complete.
What kind of wallpaper is best for living rooms?
There’s nothing wrong with a wall mural or a statement pattern on a wall. As we’re sure you can tell, we LOVE big, bold designs. But in general, we like classic, geometric or subdued wallpaper designs in a living room. We recommend soft tones, thin lines, mild contrast and tiled shapes. By going this route you will introduce a design that doesn’t overwhelm your space and allows for brighter or more dynamic accents in the form of decor, wall art and throw pillows.
We love the repeating geometric pattern and fine lines mixed with the soft mint color here. This print will leave lots of room for fun design pieces in your room.
You could style this retro or modern. The understated blue-gray color and thin, white grid lines are simple and clean. It’s begging for some hanging wall art!
For a little bit of glam, this gold Moroccan tile-inspired wallpaper design is the answer. The realistic look and dark teal shade will add some depth to the space.
Herringbone is such a classic pattern and carrara marble has such a high end, gorgeous look. This will add an elegant, elevated feel and a good basis for decor.

This gold, geometric, hex pattern is stunning! This would instantly update a dark, tired space. Bright color block prints, brass finishes and light wood accents would be great here!
Which wall is best to wallpaper?
So you have your pattern and style down, but need to figure out WHERE to put the wallpaper! In your living room, it entirely depends on the layout of your room. For example, if your room is relatively square, you can wallpaper the wall behind the sofa for a statement wall. If you have a tv or fireplace, it can be fun to do an accent wall surrounding that focal point. If the room is long and skinny and/or there is a long window wall, it may be best to wallpaper the long wall opposite the window. You can always wallpaper the entire room, but it can be a budget friendly option and a good design move to do an accent instead.
One other trend we love to see is a wall divided in half with wallpaper on the top half and board and batten on the lower half. It adds so much interest! Whatever you decide, here’s our little secret: There is no BEST way to do it! You know your space and what you like. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Our wallpaper is removable so if you put a panel up and want to move it to a different wall, you can pull it down and move it. It really is that easy!
